Job Description:

The position supports the operations of the Resource Development Center (RDC) at the Lawrence Hall of Science. RDC actively seeks to increase support for the research, programs, exhibitions, activities, and products of the Lawrence Hall of Science. RDC encompasses: Development, Communications, Marketing, Business Contracts, Grants & Contracts, and the Discovery Corner Museum Store. Through fund raising, grant and business development, and communications with a wide variety of audiences, the Center helps to ensure that LHS is able to advance its position as an innovative leader in mathematics and science education for all. The total Center operating budget is $2.3 million. The position oversees and/or performs the daily administrative operations of the center and is responsible for project management of discrete direct mail, membership, marketing & communications activities, including events, as requested to achieve center goals.
Responsibilities:

Daily Operations:
Oversee and coordinate a full range of day-to-day departmental administrative operations including hiring, employee orientation and training, assessing equipment and related needs. May price and order supplies and equipment as appropriate. Track accounts payable and receivable and reconciles accounts.

Budget Preparation and Analysis:
Develop and maintain budgets for 6 units within the Center. Prepare financial reports, including monthly income and expense analysis. Create custom reports on status of revenue generating and development operations. Track donations, campaign results, and gift and grant activity. Advise management of trends, problems and opportunities. Serve as a member of the LHS Budget Team.

Project Management
Create annual calendar for Center operations. Participate in advance planning and track progress and completion of tasks, Manage discrete projects in media relations, marketing, membership and development as assigned. Oversee process improvements across Resource Development Center. Assist Center managers in meeting critical deadlines and revenue and/or audience goals. Overall responsibility for establishing and/or maintaining recordkeeping for the Center. Provide support for marketing, membership and fundraising data needs.

Constituent Relations
Maintain routine communications with members, donors, prospects and media outlets through electronic newsletters and calendar listings. Handle information requests. Prepare and submit routine listings, keeping contact lists up to date. Assist Center units to track results, creating tracking mechanisms and reports as requested. Serve as the liaison to the 35-member LHS Advisory Committee, staffing committees as requested, coordinating meeting logistics including room reservations, catering, minutes, follow up and serving as a contact point for individual requests. May coordinate special events such as Member’s openings, lectures, cultivation dinners and related activities as assigned.

Serve on committees, representing department/unit. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent training/work experience in development administration, membership operations, media relations, advertising, marketing, or public relations

- Experience with event planning, calendaring, meeting arrangements, and direct public contact

- Knowledge of administrative systems and operations including: budgeting, financial analysis and reporting, human resources and customer service

- Power user level knowledge of common software programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint

- Verbal and written communication skills; fluid conversational writing style to communicate persuasively with the public, LHS constituents and the media (writing samples required if selected for interview)

-Excellent oral communication skills in person and on the phone

- Strong analytical/problem-solving and organizational skills desired

- Strong service orientation

- Ability to multi-task essential

- Valid California Driver’s License and clear driving record

- Must be available to work at occasional evening and/or weekend events and available to travel (locally) to support off site events

Preferred:

- Knowledge and experience using database tools to manage donor/prospect and customer databases; Raisers’s Edge experience

- Prior project management experience

Salary Range:

Annual: $ 37,044-$53,160
